Steinberg SpectraLayers Pro 13 brings a new generation of spectral editing, unmixing, restoration, and post-production tools to one of the most detailed audio editing environments available. Designed for music production, sound design, audio restoration, and post-production, SpectraLayers lets you work directly with the frequency content of your recordings, making it possible to isolate, repair, reconstruct, and reshape individual elements within complex audio material.

Version 13 introduces a range of new and improved processing modules focused on creative unmixing, speech refinement, audio reconstruction, noise control, and more efficient spectral editing. New selection and editing functions also make it easier to work with specific areas of the spectrum, while workflow improvements provide faster access to frequently used tools and more flexible project management.

Advanced Unmixing and Restoration

The new Unmix Sound Effects module can separate short sounds from continuous ambient material such as wind, traffic, crowds, and environmental recordings. Extracted sounds can be placed on their own dedicated layer, allowing them to be edited independently while preserving the surrounding background texture.

Ambience Heal automatically fills empty areas left behind by unmixing and cut-to operations. It uses surrounding background material to reconstruct missing ambience, making it useful for removing unwanted elements while maintaining natural room tone and environmental sound.

ReConstruct resynthesizes selected spectral material by analyzing the surrounding audio. It can reconstruct tones, transients, and noise, with adjustable reconstruction amounts for each component.

The Attenuate module provides a fast way to reduce high-amplitude content within a selection. It references the surrounding spectral power to help blend the selected material naturally with adjacent audio.

Voice Editing and Speech Cleanup

SpectraLayers Pro 13 adds several tools specifically designed for detailed voice editing. Voice DeClick removes unwanted mouth noises such as lip smacks and tongue clicks, with adjustable threshold, pixel width, and reduction controls for precise processing.

Voice DeCrosstalk can separate non-target voices from a primary voice, including overlapping foreground or background speech. Unmix Two Voices automatically separates two voices without requiring voice profiles, providing a streamlined approach to speech separation.

Noise Reduction and Component Separation

The improved DeNoise module builds on SpectraLayers' noiseprint-based noise reduction with additional controls for greater precision and adjustable spectral smoothness.

The improved Unmix Components module provides more accurate separation of discrete tones, transients, and noise, giving sound designers and restoration engineers greater control over individual elements within a recording.

Flexible Spectral Editing

SpectraLayers Pro 13 introduces several improvements to the way spectral selections can be edited and manipulated. Paste Into Selection allows material to be repeated or replaced directly within a selected area of the timeline, while Paste Insert makes it possible to insert a selection-length section of audio.

Dynamic Fade-Shaping controls can be used with active selections, while Resize Selection Corners lets you adjust time and frequency coordinates simultaneously. Selection fades can also be disabled when needed, providing greater control over individual editing operations.

The Fade module allows fades to be applied to selections within individual layers or used to crossfade between two selected layers. Fade-in, fade-out, and automatic fade types are available depending on the position of the selection.

Level Check and Metering

The Level Check module provides detailed loudness measurements, including True Peak and a range of LU measurements. Calculations can be performed on spectral selections or combinations of layers, with results updating automatically.

Clicking measurement fields can also move the playhead directly to the project location where specific instantaneous measurements were taken, making it easier to locate and investigate problem areas.

SpectraLayers Pro 13 also adds expanded metering options, including Display Peaks, RMS, and Loudness information.

Workflow and Interface Improvements

A new Module Information Help function provides descriptions of module functions and associated keyboard shortcuts. Module Search makes it easier to locate processing tools by name or keyword, while Interface Layout Presets allow frequently used interface configurations to be saved and recalled for different workflows.

More than 100 functions now have dedicated shortcuts, providing faster access to editing and processing operations.

For users working with external applications and large projects, the improved Pro Tools AudioSuite Bridge supports round-trip editing and processing of multiple audio clips. Batch Process Open Projects allows sophisticated batch processing to be applied across projects, while support for more than 128 device channels provides integration with systems using channels mapped beyond the 128th device channel.

Unmix Transcription also includes additional export options for frame rates such as 23.976.
