Earthquaker Devices Afterneath Eurorack Module - Silver.
The EarthQuaker Devices Afterneath Eurorack Module brings the distinctive, otherworldly reverb sounds of the acclaimed Afterneath effects pedal into the modular synthesizer environment, with expanded control and extensive CV integration. Designed for atmospheric sound design, experimental synthesis, and creative audio processing, this module transforms incoming audio into dense, evolving clouds of echoes, resonances, and spacious reverberation. From subtle ambience to chaotic, self-oscillating textures, the Afterneath offers a unique approach to reverb that encourages exploration and experimentation.
At the heart of the module is its Drag control, which manipulates the short delay lines that make up the reverb engine. Adjusting this parameter changes the relationship between the delays, creating everything from rhythmic, stuttering echoes and pitch-shifting effects to smooth, expansive reverberation. With nine selectable operating modes, the Drag parameter can respond smoothly to changes, incorporate musical slew, follow volt-per-octave scaling, or quantize its behavior to specific musical scales.
The Afterneath features a completely analog dry signal path alongside a digital wet signal path, giving you flexible control over the balance between the original sound and the processed effect. Four parameters—Drag, Mode, Diffuse, and Length—can be modulated through dedicated CV inputs, each with its own attenuverter for adjusting modulation depth and polarity. An external send and return loop provides additional possibilities for processing the reverb's feedback path, allowing other effects and modules to become part of the Afterneath's evolving sound.
With its combination of unconventional reverb processing, voltage-controlled parameters, musical pitch behavior, and extensive feedback manipulation, the EarthQuaker Devices Afterneath is a powerful tool for creating immersive soundscapes, unusual resonances, and expressive modular textures.
Features
-
Otherworldly Digital Reverb: Creates distinctive, atmospheric reverberation built from multiple short delay lines, producing complex echoes, resonances, and evolving textures.
-
Analog Dry Signal Path: Maintains a completely analog path for the dry signal, paired with a digital wet signal path for the reverb effect.
-
Drag Control: Manipulates the spacing and behavior of the internal delay lines, moving between delay-like effects, stuttering repeats, pitch changes, and spacious reverb.
-
Nine Operating Modes: Offers a range of responses for the Drag parameter, including unquantized operation, slew, volt-per-octave scaling, and several musical quantization options.
-
Selectable Musical Scales: Choose chromatic, major, minor, pentatonic, octaves-and-fifths, or octaves-only quantization for musically structured modulation.
-
CV Modulation: Provides dedicated control-voltage inputs for Drag, Mode, Diffuse, and Length, allowing external modulation from LFOs, sequencers, envelopes, and other compatible Eurorack sources.
-
Dedicated CV Attenuverters: Each CV-controlled parameter has an attenuverter for adjusting modulation depth, inverting the incoming signal, or completely attenuating it.
-
Reflect Feedback Control: Adjusts the regeneration of the reverb, from restrained repeats to dense, sustained washes and self-oscillating textures.
-
External Feedback Send and Return: Route the Reflect feedback path through external processors or modular effects. The return can also function as an additional audio input when the internal feedback path is disconnected.
-
Adjustable Tone and Diffusion: Use Dampen to shape the brightness of the wet signal and Diffuse to move between sharper, more defined repeats and smoother, more ambient reverberation.
-
Variable Reverb Length: Control the decay length of the effect, ranging from shorter, more controlled responses to long, sustained textures.
-
Flexible Wet/Dry Mixing: Blend the processed signal with the original audio using the Mix control. The Dry Kill switch removes the dry signal to provide a fully wet output.
-
Self-Oscillation: Higher Reflect and Length settings can produce self-oscillation, opening up additional possibilities for sustained tones, evolving feedback, and experimental sound generation.
-
Voltage-Controlled Pitch Behavior: In supported modes, the Drag parameter can respond to volt-per-octave control for melodic modulation of audio in the buffer and pitch control during self-oscillation.
-
Mode Indicator LED: Provides a visual indication of the currently selected operating mode.
-
Instrument and Modular-Level Compatibility: The Input control accommodates signals ranging from instrument-level to modular-level sources.
