Doepfer A-198-2v Trauton./Ribbon Contr. II Module Vintage
The Doepfer A-198-2v is the complete Vintage Edition of the A-198-2 Trautonium Manual / Ribbon Controller II system, combining the black-panel controller module with Doepfer's approximately 50 cm position- and pressure-sensitive performance manual.
Designed for highly expressive modular control, the A-198-2 converts finger position along the ribbon into CV1 and Gate 1 while finger pressure generates CV2 and Gate 2. Position can therefore control oscillator pitch while pressure simultaneously controls parameters such as filtering, amplitude, timbre, or modulation depth.
The position sensor can operate continuously for smooth Trautonium-style pitch control or in a quantized mode. Nine custom quantization scales can be programmed by the user and stored in nonvolatile memory. An OLED screen displays the active quantization as a one-octave keyboard, while nine illuminated buttons provide direct access to performance and configuration functions.
The CV1 voltage range is selectable from 0–1V through 0–5V, corresponding to one through five octaves when controlling a 1V/octave oscillator. CV2 offers seven selectable ranges with a maximum output of approximately +7V.
The direction of the ribbon can be reversed, and independent voltage offsets can be applied to the position and pressure outputs. Gate 2's pressure threshold can also be configured to determine how much finger pressure is required before the second gate becomes active.
Quantization and retrigger can be controlled either directly from the module or through the dedicated Qnt and Rtr inputs. Optional MIDI output functionality is available through internal configuration, providing additional integration with MIDI equipment.
The included manual uses the same proven position and pressure sensing system as the previous A-198 generation and is housed in a black-coated metal enclosure.
