Doepfer A-198-2 Trauton./Ribbon Contr. II Module + Manual
The Doepfer A-198-2 Trautonium Manual / Ribbon Controller II is a complete expressive performance controller consisting of an Eurorack control module and an approximately 50 cm ribbon manual with integrated position and pressure sensing.
Finger position on the manual generates CV1 and Gate 1, while finger pressure produces CV2 and Gate 2. This allows the player to simultaneously control pitch and a second expressive parameter such as filter cutoff, amplitude, or modulation depth directly from a single performance surface.
CV1 can operate as a continuous voltage for traditional Trautonium-style pitch control or can be quantized. Nine custom quantization configurations can be programmed by the user, stored internally, and recalled using the nine illuminated front-panel buttons. The OLED display presents the quantization layout as a one-octave keyboard.
The position-voltage range is selectable in five stages from 0–1V through 0–5V, providing a one- to five-octave pitch range at the standard 1V/octave scaling. The pressure-derived CV2 output provides seven selectable ranges up to approximately +7V.
A programmable threshold determines when pressure activates Gate 2. Both position and pressure CVs can have independent voltage offsets applied, while sensor direction can also be reversed.
Retrigger behavior can be enabled or disabled in quantized operation. Dedicated Qnt and Rtr inputs provide external control of quantization and retrigger settings for performance applications such as footswitch control.
Optional MIDI output functionality is also available, and all primary settings including the nine quantizations can be stored in nonvolatile memory.
