XLN Audio XO Expansion: Phonk brings the raw, distorted character of modern Phonk into XO with a collection of deliberately rough, heavily processed drum sounds. Built around low-tuned drum machines, aggressive resampling, bit-crushing, and extreme saturation, this expansion is designed for hard-hitting grooves with gritty low end and a deliberately degraded character.
The drum sounds combine 808 and 909-style snares with layers of foley and white noise, while tight synthesized hi-hats provide sharp, biting high-frequency textures. Tuned synth cowbells deliver one of Phonk's most recognizable sounds, sitting above the drums to add melodic and rhythmic definition.
The expansion is designed to work closely with XO's Master Soft Clipper. Every preset is tuned to hit the clipper in a way that transforms the reduced high-end character of the processed sounds into additional harmonic warmth and impact. This gives the kits a compressed, saturated feel while maintaining the intentionally rough character associated with the genre.
Built-in varispeed pitch variations make it possible to quickly change the character and energy of your patterns. Move between faster, drift-inspired grooves and slower, darker underground rhythms without having to rebuild your patterns from scratch. Combined with XO's sequencer and sound manipulation tools, the expansion provides a flexible way to create variations rather than relying on static loops.
With 75 presets and 201 handcrafted samples, XO Expansion: Phonk gives you a complete collection of genre-specific drum material that can be edited directly inside XO's sequencer. Individual sounds and presets can be customized, rearranged, and combined to create your own patterns and grooves.
