Launchpad Pro [MK3] is our most powerful 64-pad grid controller for producing, both in Ableton Live and with hardware. Launchpad Pro [MK3], released in January 2020, has seen immense success, becoming a favourite for computer-based music makers and all-hardware creators alike. Brand new in the free v1.2 firmware update for Launchpad Pro [MK3] are new features that expand the creative and performance capabilities of the much-loved grid controller, and make it even more desirable to electronic musicians of all kinds.
The first new feature is called Unquantised Recording, a much-anticipated upgrade that lets producers humanise their grooves by recording notes into micro steps. Unquantised Recording is activated by holding ‘Shift’ and pressing ‘Record Quantise’ while in the sequencer page of Launchpad Pro [MK3]. The creative benefits of this new feature are huge: beats that aren’t confined to a quantisation grid have a more organic, human feel, and they can be a purer expression of a creator’s unique groove. Unquantised Recording can be used to create out-of-this-world, off-grid beats, reminiscent of the style of J Dilla, ?uestlove and others famous for breaking rhythmic norms.
Also in the v1.2 firmware update for Launchpad Pro [MK3] is a new feature that lets users perform and record sequences with even more expression than before. With the sequencer running, live performances of velocity, mutation or probability values can be recorded into patterns, to build movement and unpredictability into sequences. Another new addition is the ability to set the threshold of the trigger pads, to tailor Launchpad Pro to each player’s style. Whether they prefer a super-sensitive response or they need to compensate for a heavier touch, there’s a setting for them.
Legacy Mode re-introduces the User layout of the original Launchpad Pro. This brings a level of backwards compatibility that opens the door to a world of legacy applications and lightshow performances, and gives long-term Launchpad Pro users a way to transfer their old projects into the Launchpad Pro [MK3] environment.

The free v1.2 firmware update for Launchpad Pro [MK3], can be downloaded directly from Novation Components. (Note that this update only applies to Launchpad Pro [MK3]; previous versions of Launchpad or Launchpad Pro are not affected.)
