In a departure from their legacy of digital powerhouses, Expert Sleepers's Lorelei is an entirely analog VCO for Eurorack modular synthesizers that features unique waveshaping and sound sculpting capabilities. Though it might look straightforward enough, Lorelei provides a colorful mix of sonic potential and utility that puts it in a unique place among countless other Eurorack oscillators.
Three unique waveform outputs give you access to simultaneous streams of audio—square/pulse, sine/pseudo-triangle, and cosine/pseudo-saw—each of which are affected by the Shape waveshaping knob. Incidentally, simultaneous access to both sine and cosine waves is quite useful—try using Lorelei as a modulation source for multiple related destinations using each of these outputs (or use with the sine/cosine inputs of a frequency shifter!) and revel in some unique sonic possibilities.
Loreleis sports both linear and exponential frequency modulation via two separate jacks, providing everything from subtle coloration to all-out sci-fi modulation...but the unique X-mod input is where things get particularly interesting. Instead of a traditional sync, which resets the wave based on the input signal, Lorelei creates a unique blending of the signals for rich textures. Coupling this with the Shape allows for interesting waveforms which sets this oscillator apart from others.
At first glance, Lorelei looks similar to many other Eurorack oscillators—but with its truly clever combination of features, it carries a distinctly "Expert Sleepers" twist...a combination of exploratory sonic potential and utility that should make it an obvious choice for anyone in need of a trustworthy, compact, and sonically rich oscillator.
