The Dr. Scientist Dusk is a digitally-controlled multi-mode analog filter, perfect for adding tonal control to guitars, basses, and synths. The filter is an analog 24dB/octave low pass OTA filter, which has a smooth filter response and controls for cutoff and resonance. Dusk has three modes: cutoff, envelope, and LFO. The filter and multi-switch have mode dependent behavior. Cutoff gives you access to standard filter parameters, plus an automated filter sweep with the multi-switch. There are three filter sweep rates available on push button.
In the envelope mode, the filter is controlled by the amplitude of the signal going into it. The sensitivity of the envelope can be dialed in with a trim pot on the PCB. The envelope can be frozen by engaging the multi-switch. The LFO has six waveforms: sine, ramp, saw, square, S&H, and random. The rate of the LFO is controlled by tap tempo using the multi-switch. In LFO mode the filter knob sets the active range of the filter. In the center, the LFO sweeps the full range. Turning the knob to the left or right will emphasize different parts of the harmonic spectrum.
Dusk has MIDI integration and four presets that can be saved and recalled. An expression pedal input can be used to control the filter parameter, which is mode dependent. The expression pedal also accepts CV signals from 0–5V. Dusk brings together the functionality of an analog filter with digital control to make a powerful pedal suited to a wide variety of applications.
