Doepfer A-198-2modv Traut./Ribbon Contr. II Module Vintage
The Doepfer A-198-2modv is the module-only Vintage Edition of the A-198-2 Trautonium Manual / Ribbon Controller II, an advanced interface designed to convert position and pressure data from a compatible Doepfer A-198 ribbon manual into control voltages and gate signals for modular synthesis.
The controller electronics generate two independent control voltages and two gate signals. CV1 and Gate 1 are derived from finger position on the ribbon, while CV2 and Gate 2 respond to finger pressure. Position CV is typically used for oscillator pitch, while the pressure-derived output can control parameters such as filter frequency, VCA level, modulation depth, or other voltage-controlled functions.
CV1 can operate continuously for traditional Trautonium-style pitch control or in a quantized mode. Nine user-programmable quantization scales are available and displayed as a one-octave keyboard on the module's OLED screen. Quantization can be switched on or off directly from the front panel or remotely through the Qnt control input.
The position-voltage range can be configured from 0–1V up to 0–5V, corresponding to a one- to five-octave range at the 1V/octave standard. The pressure-controlled CV2 output can reach approximately +7V with seven selectable ranges. Programmable offsets are available for both CV outputs.
Retrigger behavior can be enabled or disabled, including external control through the Rtr input. Gate 2 features an adjustable pressure threshold, allowing an additional event to be triggered once the player presses beyond the programmed level.
An optional MIDI output mode is also available. The Rtr jack can be internally reassigned for MIDI output, or MIDI can be accessed through a compatible breakout solution. User settings, including the nine quantization configurations, can be stored in nonvolatile memory.
This Vintage Edition features Doepfer's black front panel. This SKU includes the controller module only; the ribbon manual is not included. An existing compatible A-198 manual can be used with the A-198-2.
