The DMC-2 Gen2 is our most compact MIDI controller pedal. It can control the Strymon Timeline, Line 6 M Series (M5, M9, M13,) or the Eventide Factor Series (Timefactor, Modfactor, Pitchfactor, SPACE, H9.)
The DMC-2 Gen2 is based on our popular DMC-2 controller, but it has been updated to use our powerful new Gen2 architecture. It has been updated (August 2013) with a smaller enclosure, so that it fits on the most compact of pedalboards. The footswitches are spaced approximately 3″ apart. The DMC-2 requires 12mA of current at 9VDC, and may be powered by most popular power supplies. Due to its low current draw and internal isolation, the DMC-2 can work on a daisy-chain power connector with most other devices.
The DMC-2 Gen2 adds in USB MIDI functionality – this means that you can connect the DMC-2 Gen2 to your computer running DAW or other performance software such as Ableton Live, Mainstage, etc. and the controller will be seen as a MIDI interface. You can use the buttons on the controller to change programs or send messages, and any data you send from the computer to the DMC-2 Gen2 interface will be passed out to the 5-pin MIDI port on the DMC. The DMC-2 Gen2 will pass all types of MIDI messages including program changes, continuous controllers, note on / off, SysEx, and clock.
The DMC-2 Gen2 is also compatible with the Apple iPad using the Apple Camera Connection Kit (either Lightning or 30-pin.) The iPad will power the DMC-2 Gen2 and all of the USB MIDI functions work as described above. You can use the DMC-2 Gen2 to change presets in your synth or guitar apps such as JamUp, Bias, Amplitube and more.
Unlike some of the other compact controller options on the market, the DMC-2 does not require modifying your Timeline or other MIDI-capable pedal. All of its functions are enabled using a single MIDI cable, and your MIDI pedal remains fully functional at all times.
As an example, one available modification allows the use of a passive “Aux Switch” to bank the Timeline up and down. While this is convenient, it still requires the user to step on the A or B button on the Timeline to activate the chosen preset. The DMC-2 moves up and down by tapping its footswitches, and then the user can activate a preset by “holding” the left or right (A or B) switch. It can also allow for fast preset scrolling.
The Aux Switch mod also is non-functional while the Timeline is in the Looper mode (pressing either switch stops the looper!) The DMC-2 will allow preset or bank scrolling while in looper mode, or it can act as a looper control while the Timeline remains in preset mode! No simple passive switch can match the versatility of the DMC-2.
