doepfer-a-180-3-buffered-multiple
Doepfer A-180-3 Buffered Multiple

Module A-180-3 is a dual buffered 1-in-3 multiple. The signal applied to the input socket appears as a buffered signal at the three output sockets. Each output has it's own buffer, i.e. the three output sockets are not simply connected to each other. The lower output of the upper unit is normalled in the factory to the input of the lower unit. That way the module works as a single 1-in-6 buffered multiple provided that no signal is applied to the input of the lower unit. But it's also possible to pick-up the bus CV and normalize the input socket of the lower unit to the bus CV.

Technical data:

input resistance/impedance: about 5M

output resistance/impedance: less than 100 Ohm

Typical applications:

Buffering and copying the outputs of voltage controlled switches (e.g. A-150-1, A-150-8, A-151, A-152).

Comment: in case of bidirectional switches it's not possible to integrate the buffers into the switching module because the direction is not known (i.e. which terminal of the switch is working as input and which as output). All electronic switches suffer from a small residual restistance that may cause a small voltage drop without buffering. This may become a problem especially when VCOs are controlled by the switched voltages.

Buffering and copying the signals of CV interfaces, quantizers, slew limiter, S&H/T&H, sequencer etc. when VCOs are controlled by the CV (provided that the module in question does not feature a buffered output)
